A 41-year-old Philadelphia mother is facing charges after she abandoned her severely disabled son in the woods for five days so she could go visit her lover. Nyia Parler´s 21-year-old son is quadriplegic and suffers from cerebral palsy.
Police found him covered with a blanket next to a wheelchair and a Bible near Cobbs Creak Park. "The young man was completely defenseless in an area with wild animals, with no water and in cold, damp weather," Lt. John Walker says.
Parler is facing charges, including aggravated assault, reckless endangering and neglect of a care-dependent person. Her son was hospitalized with dehydration, malnutrition and several exposure-related injuries.
