Landslide Buries Afghan Village, At Least 52 Dead

 

At least 52 people are dead and 97 houses destroyed after a landslide hit a remote part of the Badakhshan province in Afghanistan Thursday.

Among the victims are 22 children and 25 women. "We do not have any equipment to rescue any possible survivors buried under a huge mountain of mud," explained District Governor Ghufran Zaki.

The isolated Village Jurm Ulya is located near the Tajikistan border and difficult to access by road as it is covered in snow.
