Rare Monkeys Stolen From French Zoo

17 extremely rare and endangered monkeys were stolen from a zoo in central France over the weekend, the zoo said on Tuesday.

The thieves broke into the zoo in Beauval on Saturday night and took seven golden lion tamarins and 10 silver marmosets. The zoo is currently looking through CCTV footage.

"These are extremely rare, threatened monkeys. These thieves knew exactly what monkeys they wanted to steal. There are two possibilities. Either a collector or the black market for new types of pets," zoo director Rodolphe Debord told the press.
