U.S. Special Operations forces killed a senior ISIS commander during a raid in eastern Syria Friday night, the Pentagon announced.
Abu Sayyaf, also known as Mohammed Shalabi, "was killed during the course of the operation when he engaged U.S. forces", Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter confirmed. He had a senior role in overseeing ISIS´s illicit oil and gas operations.
His wife Umm Sayyaf was caught and is being held in Iraq. The operation also freed a young Yazidi woman whom Abu Sayyaf and Umm Sayyaf kept as “a slave".
