GM Set to Face Criminal Charges Because of Faulty Switches

General Motors will likely be prosecuted over faulty ignition switches that have been linked to at least 104 deaths.

The automaker recalled 2.6 million vehicles in 2014 over problems with the ignition switch. According to a report in the NY Times Friday, GM likely broke the law by making misstatements about the defect.

The fine is expected to surpass the $1.2 billion paid last year by Toyota, which concealed a problem with sudden accelerations in some of its cars.
