Health officials in Florida say a rare form of flesh-eating bacteria has made its way to the state´s beaches.
Seven people have been infected so far and two died after contracting the bacterium. It causes, among other things, diarrea and abdominal pain when eaten in contaminated food.
If it comes in contact with an open wound, it may cause infections that lead to "flesh-eating symptoms", such as skin breakdown and ulcers. In severe cases, amputations are necessary.
