Lipid in Avocados Targets Leukemia Stem Cells

A new study conducted in Canada shows that a lipid in avocado could prove key to battling leukemia by attacking the deadly disease at its stem cells.

The scientists used Avocatin B, a molecule derived from avocados, as a treatment. A drug with the molecule could increase life expectancy for patients of the disease.

"We┬┤ve performed many rounds of testing to determine how this new drug works at a molecular level and confirmed that it targets stem cells selectively, leaving healthy cells unharmed," says Professor Paul Spagnuolo of the University of Waterloo.
