Academy Award Winner Was Out of Work Immediately after Winning an Oscar


Acclaimed sound designer Resul Pookutty, who won the Academy Award for sound mixing of the film ´Slumdog Millionaire´ (2009), has admitted that he was out of work for three years after winning the Oscar because people were afraid to approach him.

Resul Pookutty, speaking to, said after he had won the Oscar, he got a text from Bollywood film director Sanjay Bhansali who said he missed him in his film. When asked why he didn´t hire him, Bhansali said he couldn´t afford him.

Resul Pookutty said this was known as the ´Oscar´s Curse´ and A R Rahman, sound maestro had also admitted being unable to pay his bills after winning the Academy Award.
