University of Texas Removes Jefferson Davis Statue

A statue of Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate states, has been removed from its place on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

UT-Austin President Greg Fenves decided to move the statue to a museum as it has been a target of criticism that it is a symbol of racism and discrimination.

A judge last week ruled against the Sons of Confederate Veterans, which sued to stop the university from moving it. About 100 student showed up to watch as the statue was removed, some cheering.
