Tenn. Woman Charged With Attempted Murder for Failed Abortion

A woman from Murfreesboro, Tenn. was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder after a failed attempt to end her pregnancy. Anna Yocca, 31 reportedly filled a bathtub with water, “took a coat hanger and attempted to self-abort her pregnancy".

When Yocca began bleeding, she became worried about her safety. Her boyfriend took her to the hospital where she delivered a 24-week-old baby who weighed only 1.5 pounds.

The child suffered damage to his lungs, eyes and heart caused by the coat hanger. "Those injuries will affect this child for the rest of his life, all caused at the hands of his own mother," Sgt. Kyle Evans said. Yocca is being held on a $200,000 bond.

Foreseen result of regression of abortion access

This type of stuff was supposed to have been handled years ago, but instead we again have this type of situation where women have to try to do this at home. If she´d had access to a clinic, maybe she wouldn´t have had to attempt surgery on herself. I´m sure this wasn´t her first preference either. Most people don´t turn to actions like this unless they are desperate. I really dislike the whole "unborn child" rhetoric too. It essentially turns women into walking incubators as soon as an egg is fertilized. I have two kids and I love them dearly, but we are done having children. We´ve taken steps to reduce the odds of getting pregnant again, but my wife and I have agreed that we wouldn´t continue another pregnancy.
