Study: Smoking Pot Unlikely to Cause Decline in IQ


A new study by researchers at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis found that the cumulative use of marijuana by teenagers has no direct effect on intelligence decline.

Other factors, such as genetics or the young personĀ“s family environment, are more likely to blame for cognitive decline. "It could be that they come from a neighborhood or a home where intellectual development is not highly encouraged," study author Joshua D. Isen says.

The reseachers examined data had been collected for two big U.S. studies of twins.
