A long term research that has been running for the last ten years has found that a few years after a divorce, men are usually financially better off than they were before, while women lose out and are poorer.
One of the reasons for this is that, shockingly, women still simply earn an average 14 per cent less than men doing the same jobs. Another reason is that only 48 per cent of divorced fathers pay the child care money fully and regularly.
Women, on the other hand, face growing costs for child care and education. They would need to go back to court and fight out new settlements every few years to get their right, but mostly haven't got the financial possibilities or the strength.
