Victorian firefighters in southern Australia are on stand-by in their own state as temperatures reach highs of 35°C and the wind picks up. Peter Philip from the Country Fire Association has assured people that there are enough resources to fight fires.
Victoria has sent 1000 firefighters and 80 trucks up to New South Wales but they are just 5% of Victorias fighting force. Mr. Philip also warns that citizens living in trouble spots, i.e. bushlands, should do what they can to protect their houses.
When asked if the firefighters that were sent to NSW would also be on stand-by Mr. Philip said "They've been up there on 72 hour shifts, they need a rest." However, he was consistent in reminding Victorians that those in NSW were just 5% of the force.
