Dolly The Clone Is Sick

Dolly the sheep, who was the first successfully cloned animal has become sick with arthritis while she is still relatively young.

The men who cloned her say that the early development of the disease may be a sign that the cloning process leads to genetic defects in animals. Arthritis in a 5 year old sheep is generally rare, but it can occur naturally.

There have now been calls for a systematic review into the long term health of cloned animals as no one knows yet how they change as they age.
