English Teen Pregnancies So High Because Sex Is A 'Dirty' Topic

New research in the UK has shown that sex education there, although being nearly identical in content to that in the Netherlands, does not help in reducing teen pregnancies because many people and parents still regard sex as a 'dirty' topic.

Presently there are 40 pregnancies per 100 girls under the age of 18 every year in the UK, while in the Netherlands it is 4. This discrepancy is now being blamed on the attitudes of teachers and parents.

Because teens get the idea that sex is illicit and exciting, but not something that can be talked about, they are more likely to try it without protection according to the research.
