The Clinton's 4-year-old chocolate Labrador Buddy, who was a well-liked face in office during Bill Clinton's presidential years, was killed after being struck by a car near the family's home.
Local police say the dog was "playfully chasing a contractor who had just left the residence" when he was struck on a busy road. They assure the killing was "strictly an accident."
Buddy's neutering in 1998 gave David Letterman some laughs. "President Clinton's pretty busy. He had Buddy the White House dog neutered. ... So, Socks is neutered, Buddy is neutered, and so I'm thinking, two down, one to go," he said.
