AOL Accused of Ignoring Security Warning

The 19 year old hacker who first discovered the security flaw in AOL's Instant Messenger (AIM) system says that the company ignored his warnings, forcing him to go public with the information himself.

Matt Conover, who is part of nonprofit security group W00w00, says he notified AOL more than a week ago, and received no response. "No matter how long we waited we weren't going to hear back from them," Conover said.

One security expert said W00w00 was "irresponsible" for posting the information themselves, and AOL said that they hadn't been given enough time to check out the warning before it was made public, potentially alerting hackers.
