Ranchers and law enforcement personnel alike are baffled by a new wave of cattle mutilations which remind many old-timers of events occurring 10 and 15 years ago.
Several animals have been partially-skinned in a manner that suggests a surgical level of precision. Local predators such as wolves and coyotes are not currently suspects in these events because all animals have been avoiding the mutilated carcasses.
Most of the cows involved have had the skin scraped off their faces, either fully or partially. The underlying jawbone has been bright and shiny as if it was polished. The removal of one eye, an ear, and genitalia has also been common.
