EU Agrees on Mad Cow Action

The EU has unanimously agreed to ban all meat and bone based feed for animals after an emergency meeting of agriculture ministers.

The current spread of BSE in animals has caused a drop off in beef consumption throughout the continent. The ban will cost about $1.7 billion to implement.

However the ban is only for six months while research is carried out. During this time thousands of cattle may need to be slaughtered if they test positive to the disease.
