KaZaa Kicked Off Download.com

Adware and spyware on several leading file trading programs have caused concern, but for the first time Download.com has actually booted one leading program, KaZaa, from its site because of this.

KaZaa sparked several stories by Download.com's parent company CNET over the recent covert addition of Brilliant Digital's distributed computing program to KaZaa.

KaZaa regularly ranked in Download.com's "Most Downloaded" and pulled around a million downloads a week just from that service.

  This is good news

A program should be just what you expect, not a hidden bundle of surprise programs aswell, especialy these adware and spyware programms, stuff we can really do without.

Try something new for a change, www.neo-modus.com (look at direct connect, there is 1.5 Petabytes of files availible)

This is the new untamed file trader on the block, viva la resistance!

  wow

Just tried that out, was getting 80kb/sec transfer rate. Much better than the Gnutella network. Thanks.

  adware and spyware

are legal viruses. Sort of. Get something like Adaware so you can scan your system for adware and spyware components.

  Knew About This Already

Glad to see someone being responsible about this.

Is it true Morpheus has a similar spyware thing?

  Adware/Spyware, who cares

I never understood all the griping about adware/spyware. The authors of the program have to make some sort of money. Not to mention that the sole purpose (Or at least the 99.99999% purpose) is for downloading illegal files in the first place.

I have used Kazaa for quite some time. I left cydoor installed (you have to) but contrary to some reports, you can remove BDE.

Having ads displayed using a minute amount of bandwidth is a small price. If you are concerned about privacy, don't install it and purchase your cd's, movies, etc etc

  well

Well the thing about spyware is that you don't even know you are installing it. It's monitoring your Internet activity without your knowledge or permission, hence the name spyware. It's not the same thing as adware, which annoying as it might be, is at least legitimate. Adware simply describes any application that is supported by advertising, and it's not doing anything strange you don't know about in the background. You can't really complain too much about adware. Most of the time they will tell you that an application displays ad banners before you download it, so if you don't want ad banners don't download it.

"Sharman Networks does not condone the use of 'spyware' and does not use 'spyware' in KaZaA Media Desktop." – Kazaa.com

lol, yea right. Now they deny it exists.

  THIS IS PURE IDIOCY!!

this is rediculous. just because it has spyware is not a sufficient reason 2 remove the program from the downloads. its the most popular download and no one really cares about that. Currently, it is the best p2p software avilable, toppin even gnutell which has really slow transfer rates and isnt user friendly, and im sure many ppl are angry bout this! cracks are readily avilable. they even have some at downloads.com!!! idiots
