Millennium Bug Makes Credit Card Purchases Impossible

7-Eleven stores have had problems with their cash registers. Instead of counting from 2000 to 2001 they started with 1901 on Jan 1st. The problem was fixed on Tuesday night.

The bug affected only customers who wanted to pay by credit card. They had to pay by cash or cheque unless they were lucky and in shops which still could take manual imprints of cards.

7-Eleven spent ยง8.8 million on getting its computer system prepared for the year 2000.
It's not clear yet how much they've lost because of the 2001 bug.
