The state of New Jersey is suing to strip a doctor of his medical license, after seven people have died after undergoing his "rapid opiate detoxification" procedure.
Dr. Gooberman was once a drug addict himself, and is devoted to helping others recover. His rapid recovery program reduces the pain of withdrawal, and can be done outside of a hospital, unlike other rapid detoxes. He claims to have helped 2,350 people.
Gooberman claims that the patients who died already had heart problems, or took more drugs, which is especially deadly after detox. However, the state believes that it is irresponsible to do such a dangerous procedure as an outpatient operation.
