Siamese Twins with Fused Livers Seperated

Siamese Twins born at the beginning of December at the Homerton Hospital, have been successfully separated at the famous London St Ormond's hospital.

The baby girls were joined mid chest to mid-abdomen, and their livers were also connected. A hospital spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the twins have been separated and hopefully they will continue to do well."

Mrs Rahman, the Mother told a Sunday paper: "Seeing them separate looked so odd. Suddenly we had two very individual little girls. They were lying in their own cots at separate ends of a big room."

says that conjoined twins are extremely rare, about one in 200,000 live births. It seems though that such twins are a lot more in the news these days. Is it because the world no longer sees them as freaks, or are there really more cases than there used to be?
