The Jaguar factory in Halewood, Merseyside, England is to stop production of the X-type "Baby Jag" model for 1 to 3 weeks in Febuary. All 2,200 workers will be affected by the action.
Jaguar's corporate affairs manager, David Crisp said: "We are looking at utilising down time to redress stock levels and achieve a balance between production and stock levels.
Sales have been low, the lack of a diesel version hasn't helped. Crisp said: "In European markets there has been a shift towards diesel cars, so in a sense we have not been competing on a level playing field." A diesel version is due later this year.
