The death toll from Fridays earthquake in north western India is now expected to hit 20,000 although a precise figure may never be known. The Indian government has asked for $1.5 billion from international banks to help it recover from the quake.
Few people are now expected to be found alive in the rubble of the city of Bhuj where up to 90% of the buildings in the town have been rendered uninhabitable.
There are now fears of disease spreading and people are now making huge funeral pyres to burn the dead. It is the worst earthquake to hit India since 1950.
