Barclays Plc, a UK bank, announced on Saturday that there is an email scam across the internet that convinces users to enter their personal details by falsely claiming to be from Barclays.
The email includes a link that leads to a dummy website. A Barclays spokesperson said "Barclays is in no way involved with this email and the Web site does not belong to us." Five websites have been closed down since the scam came to light.
400 Barclays customers have been in contact with the bank, of which only 8 reported giving their personal information. The 8 accounts have been blocked and Barclays have said they will cover any financial losses endured because of the scam.
