Warning: Emails Might be Tapped

Privacy advocates are warning of a new programming technique which effectively adds a wiretap to your email programs.

The CEO of a privacy group calls it "very illegal and very easy to do." The technique involves adding a bit of Javascript to a message. This enables the sender to read what the recipient writes when he forwards the mail.

The vulnerability exists only in mail programs which are HTML/Javascript-enabled, including Outlook, Outlook Express and Netscape Version 6. web-based email like Hotmail, Eudora, and AOL 6 are unaffected.
