Free ISP for Credit Cardholders

American Express is experimenting with offering a free ISP for its credit card holders, in a time when many other free Internet providers are going out of business. The service is available in the U.S., and might spread to Canada if it is successful.

The company has not yet made the service public. "It's in a testing phase with a small group of current customers. We're still determining services and features that work," said an American Express spokeswoman.

Some wonder if the service will last. "If American Express cannot tie new revenue streams directly to the free ISP service that will help it cover the costs...you might find that the company will pull back on this initiative," said an analyst.
