93-Year-Old Beaten to Death for her Keys

Rosina Seigel, 93, returned home Friday and was confronted by a robber, who demanded she turn over her car keys. Seigel refused to do so and was then beaten to death with a hammer.

Within 15 minutes of the murder, the assailant, Russell Bright, 20, crashed the car. After a short chase Bright was arrested.

Bright is being held without bond, charged with first-degree murder, armed burglary, armed robbery and grand theft.

I think its called mass media. A vicious murder in one locality now gets national exposure causing more people to feel less safe.
Example: the Columbine killings happened at a time that murders and violence declined at schools. But one or two stories made people think otherwise and we got 0 tolerance.
