Janet Jackson's Breast Exposed on Super Bowl Halftime Show

CBS is apologizing for an incident that took place during the Super Bowl Halftime show. Justin Timberlake says it was a "wardrobe malfunction" when he pulled Janet Jackson's outfit and the viewing public got to see her right breast live on TV.

This happened right after a musical set that included Jackson, Timberlake, Kid Rock, P Diddy, and Nelly. MTV produced the musical number and says the breast incident was "unrehearsed." The NFL says MTV will probably not produce a halftime show again.

NFL executive vice president Joe Browne says: "We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show. They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show."

that was the only good thing

The set was old. The songs were 1-3 years old and the whole surprise guest thing wasn't played out. They should have thrown Outkast in or someone to make it current. The songs were pretty much lip synched. The only thing that made it interesting was the breast incident.
I miss the alternative halftime shows other networks used to air. Remember the In Living Color one during the Giants/Bills?

  Naturally it was arranged

This was not just a feak accident. It looked just a little bit too precisely timed for that.

In europe, during a eurovision song contest, in front of millions of people, the hostess suddenly appeared to drop her skirt, leaving her in panties on stage. She ran out. Later it turned out that it was arranged because it's the type of emabarrasing situation that no woman would want to be in, and so they decided to do it for fun (the hostess was of course in on it). It was very funny to watch.

Lots of artists play tricks like that, and with the Jacksons, well, who knows. It's a convenient way to attract media attention to yourself.

Justin is just standing there with the removable breast patch, singing like nothing had happened. That is no "wardrobe malfunction", that is a deliberate media stunt.

And is that a patch of some sort we see on her - incidently not so spectacular, breast?

  -

The original act was arranged - Timberlake was supposed to rip off just the plate and leave the bra. That's why it looked "rehearsed." He was doing what was originally planned. Just...Something extra happened.

And MBerg - It was a nipple ring.

  A nation of prudes

What is up with the media condemnation of this? Almost universally every American news source is pouring scorn and fake shock on this, talking about it like Janet and Justin started having sex on the stage. I could not find a single American source that had the balls to even show what all the fuss was about, instead finding a conveniently censored picture of the event with Janet Jackson holding her boob.

It’s weird how I can turn on American TV and watch murder, torture, dead bodies and people eating insects and vomiting into a bucket, but dare to show some minor nudity and the media goes insane. IT’S JUST A BREAST PEOPLE, NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF, AND THE NIPPLE IS COVERED ANYWAY!!!

I just hope the average American is not as prudish as the media seems to suggest.

If you want an uncensored record of the event try here:

As for the halftime show it just plain sucked. The guests were lackluster, the songs were unimaginative and uninspired, without the breast thing the show would never be remembered. Now CBS are not going to use MTV again, well frankly after such a poor performance they don’t deserve to be used again.

I would appreciate it if you'd stop making such ignorant remarks about the entire country. I would expect more from a fellow American. While you mention the possibility that the rest of America isn't like the idiots in our media you certainly imply that we are like our media. To be honest, I doubt even the idiots in our media believe the crap they spew most of the time. Our media sucks, get used to it or do something about it other than complain. I'm tired of being labelled for some BS I had nothing to do with. On a side note, I understand your frustration with US media. It's why I never watch the news. If it's that important I'll find out about it the same way I always do. From another player in whatever game I happen to currently be playing. If there is ever any truly important news out there people will actually talk about it as opposed to merely laughing at it.

That is a scary thing. I posted this last night because I just saw it on TV and found it slightly entertaining. I didn't realize it would get more hits than the first story submitted here about 9-11 which got about 5,000 hits.

Part of the reason for the hits though lies with Google News linking up to us.

  Her nipple wasn't covered.

It was just obscured. Go to http://www.ehowa.com and look at the close up picture link. Its not a pastie at all, but rather a kind of "nipple brooch" consisting of a ring around the nipple, a rod piercing the ring and the nipple (presumably to keep it on) and sunbeams extending outward from the ring.

You can quite clearly see the nipple and the areola in the close-up shot.

I'm inclined to believe that there was supposed to be a red lacy thing covering her breast during the stunt. Meh. The way it turned out is far more interesting anyway.

It was the least offensive part of the game

It is hard to believe how misogynistic the FCC is.

Were they upset about discussions of erectile disfunction? Try explaining that to your 5 year old kid...

And what about the commercial with a farting horse? Or the homoerotic Chamin ad? "Illegal use of hands!"

All this talk about ruining the family entertainment value of the superbowl. Professional football is a violent activity deserving of a PG rating anyway!

And the talk about everyone being outraged is pure BS. For every shocked prude, 10 viewers searched the Internet trying to get a better view of Janet's breast shield.

But the censors will use this as an excuse to impose their twisted morality on the public.

There is nothing obscene or indecent about a woman's breast. It is the source of life, it is nature. Only little dirty minds make it indecent!

  most offensive part to me

That Mike Ditka erectile dysfunction bash baseball ad really sucked the big one if you ask me. I had a better time seeing Janet's breast than hearing him talk about baseball players not having the stamina football players have and comparing it to an erection drug.
If you ask me, TV needs more breasts and less erectile dysfunction ads. ;)

I NEED TO BE A PUBLICIST!!!

I wish I were a publicist! I would scoop Janet up and tell all those people - HELLO! Talk to the hand! You didn't say Jack when Cher walked out on public tv with ALL her ASS hanging out; not one word was spoken when Madonna stuck her tongue down Britney's throat, where are you "I'm so offended" people when Christina Aguilera is twisting her slut self all around?

This is total bull. I wouldn't let Janet utter one word of apology.

And Justin. *rolls my eyes* He needs to get slapped upside his stupid head. *falsetto voice mimic* "I would never do anything like that. I don't need to do that sort of thing."

Well EXCUSE ME! If I -and however many million people reportedly else- are not mistaken, YOU DID IT. No one MADE him do it. If -read my words- IF Janet said "we're going to do this" all he had to do was say "NO" and not do it. But he did. So he is just as much at fault if not more for doing it. As a matter of fact, Janet should have blamed him for the whole thing.

This whole thing has been blown waaaaay out of proportion. It was a football game not a christening.

Holy crap! The Dallas Cowboys expose more skin than that. It's not like the woman stood up there and flopped herself up and down. She immediately covered herself.

If I were Janet, I wouldn't give them a dime and they could take my apology and shove it.

  Atrracting Attention?

>>>>Lots of artists play tricks like that, and with the Jacksons, well, who knows. It's a convenient way to attract media attention to yourself<<<<<<

I hardly think either Janet or Michael need to do anything to "attract" attention to themselves.

Just walking outside will pretty much do it.

Now you want to talk about people that want to "attract" attention to themself, how about them FEAR FACTOR folk?

-grins-

  The Media

Don't get me started on "the media."

I honestly believe, had it not been for "the media," this would not have ascended to the proportion it has.

I was watching the show and I didn't even see it. Then when "the media" started showing it, well it was all I saw!

  More hits than 9/11?

*shrugs*

Consider how much more important "people" thought the death of Diana than that of Mother Theresa -- and she was a "Saint"

Why so many hits? It's only a breast.
