Prison Officials Avoid Riot With TV Sets

Prisoners at the Dartmoor prison in southwest England were planning to riot on Monday as a protest against not being able to watch the England versus France Euro 2004 match.

Prison staff rounded up the ringleaders and put them in a separate block where no TVs or radios are allowed and then installed televisions for the other inmates. The television installation was already planned as a part of a humanity agenda.

A senior official was quoted as saying "In no way did the prison bow to any sort of blackmail. The ringleaders of the planned riot were all identified in the segregation unit. Their plan backfired because they could not see or listen to the game."

  If they planned to riot

they should all spend 22 hours locked in there cells, the rest of the time could be spent showering and eating in shifts.
Since when was tv a human right?

You want to stop riots? Once these people are locked in their cage, don't let them out again until their sentence is up. Feed them through the bars, let them have books to read, and give them plenty of time to think about the actions that put them there. Sponge baths in the sink, no TV, no using a gym to get huge so you can beat people up once you get out, no "playground," and above all, no problems.
I wonder what this "humanity agenda" says to do for all the victims of these animals.

Oh, wait, I know: NOTHING.

Go figure.

  ignorance....

First off they planned on putting in tv sets not because of the riots, and the leaders of the rioters were punished.
Also don't act like everyone in there is a murderer, some crimes aren't severe enough to be punished with 23 hour cell time, and keep in mind there are always innocent people being sent in as well.
Its a known fact not giving prisoners tvs and books to read and freedom can be counter productive.
First off, having no education when they get out will just increase the chances they will break the law again because they have nothing to start off on; which wastes your tax dollars furthermore because they end up back in prison because they don't have what it takes to get a job with nothing to start off on when they get out.
ALso having no tv and freedom can cause them to go insane, which will add in the hate when they get out to cause more trouble or so damaged they are not the person they used to be just a worse person than you got before. everyone knows the suffering of being in a prison changes you.......but that doesn;t mean in a good way, don't think people will change in a better way just because they "hated" being in prison, some lose their mind to not care anymore.
Im not saying your opinions are wrong, but you always got to look at the other side of things, and not make ignorant statements like that.
