A new University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey shows that only 9% of Native Americans polled are offended by the name of US football team, the Washington Redskins. 90% said they were OK with the name.
Little difference was found between men and women on the issue. The number of "offended" increased slightly among those with college degrees (13%), and those who identified themselves as liberals (14%).
Team owner George Preston Marshall changed the name from Braves to Redskins in 1932 to honor Native American and head coach, William "Lone Star" Dietz. Controversy has risen over the political correctness of the team's name.
