Bush Announces Extra $350m Aid For Tsunami Victims
American President Bush has announced that the US has pledged a further $350m (€221,437) to help the victims of last weeks tsunami.
Bush also announced that he is sending his brother, Jeb Bush, with the Secretary of State Colin Powell to areas hit by the earthquake and the giant waves that followed to see what more the US needs to do.
The increase in aid, 10 times as much as the original aid announced, follows critical comments about the size of the US's original contribution.
Those countries will still hate the US and in a few years will insult us the same way France does. People seem to forget how much the US actually does.
And what did these countries do for us during the hurricanes that hit FL last summer? A whole lot of nothing!
People saying, they will hate us even if we give money, or why didn't they give us money for Florida. Well first off we are one of the richest countries in the world, and there is no reason that poor 3rd world countries should have to give money to help us. "They" will hate us, maybe their governments and some extreme groups, but lets face it some people living in this country hate us anyways. So many people are dieing and as one of the world's strongest country it is our duty to give money and help as much as possible. I think that 350 million is a weak donation.
350 million + the original 15 million is a weak donation? Are you kidding? You know how many jobs that would create if it were just put into the stock market?
Anyways about the Florida thing, I think he was just trying to make a simple point that while we gives plenty of aid, no one really gives it back to us...atleast not in the same way. But thats okay, because we have the resources to take care of it ourselves.
As for the amount of money..it takes time to mobolize that much money. I don't think it's because some UN jackass thought the original donation was stingy...as we prove time and time again we don't care what others think. But it's really because the death toll is climbing higher and higher.
are so bloody ignorant that they don’t even know what countries have been affected. All they come in and do is bitch about how everyone hates the US. 1) Do they ever think about what ppl hate about the US?? (Let me tell you Iraq) 2) Do the affected countries really have anything against the US (countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, India)
I mean really they need to read up on what happening before they come in and start whining about how everyone hates the US. All they do it cry and bitch.

Ahhhh, let's all sigh for them and hold a candle vigil for the poor US people. It's not fair that you should give back to world some of the money that was "earnt" through shrewd corporate business and raping of the developing worlds working population. It's so unfair that Fat Sam may not get as many computer games for christmas next year. Ahhhhhh. BOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO Hooooooooooo.
I'm sicks of this crap, the US needs to stop spending our tax dollars on other countries. Myself and others I know, have been unemployed for years, and the number of homeless in (our state) is increasing. They waste millions helping people in other countries instead of using those funds to help people in our country.
I mentioned France as an EXAMPLE. I am well aware that France was not hit by a tsunami. In case you need a lesson in history, I say you look up World War 2.
... folks will still complain. No matter how much aid the U.S. gives, it won't be enough to some people. Despite that, 350 mil. spent is 350 million more than they would have had. Sometimes though, a person just wants to lash out on America in a negative way... It doesn't get much easier to do that when a world disaster is at-hand and money is needed. Whoever thinks in the latter sense knows who they are... and so, it goes without saying that it does not apply to everyone with a complaint.
It won't help to become stubborn and conclude that, "Some people don't appreciate it, so we just won't do it anymore!" though. Everything aside, there are still countries in need of immediate help...and um... well, we need to do it. It's just... right.
I'd rather my "tax dollars" go to aid of total strangers than a new missile anyway. I get this eerie feeling that new missile won't be helping anyone.
It seems there are alot of people still clinging to this hope that "if we act in time, we can prevent future generations from having to pay our defecit"...
Our future generations are already going to have to help foot the bill for this Millions-of-Dollars-An-Hour War. Protest that. Instead of the fact that we're wasting "our" money to HELP people.
But who knows. If we get all these things straight in Iraq, maybe we can start pumpin that thar oil for our benefit, eh? Mmmm. Calvary is'a comin soooon!
The point I was trying to make here was that none of the countries that were affected by the tsunami have anything against the America. Therefore, you really need to stop your bitching about how they going to hate America even after America helped them. Once again, all I am going to say is they do not hate America or the American people they only hate some of America’s policies. If that is hard for you to understand then I am sorry I am not going to waste my time on you.
They don't hate America NOW. Again, using France as my example, France didn't hate the US either in 1944, when the US soldiers liberated Paris. They don't hate our policies, they actually hate the people.
you cant use one country or their ppl to represent or express the feelings or behaviour of the whole world i mean seriously grow up. And if u are saying that just because America gives a country aid/money they have no right to voice their opinion then i am sorry thats the same as bribing someone and bribing is illegal ant it ??? Anyway this is the end of me replying to this thread. Have a good day :)
Its obvious, that when France among others wouldnt support your bullshit war in Iraq, you were one of those ignorant redneck fools, who kept rambling on about how France surrender and all that other bullshit that only some Americans found funny.
Why should the USA give aid? Because the USA is the richest country on earth, and as the only remaining super power, it has obligations and responsibilities, something that you wont understand, so dont bother thinking about it. You might cause your self some permanent damage.
And if you want the USA to stop giving out aid to those in need of it, and you want the USA to not give a damn about the rest of the world, fine, go run for President, and keep the USA out of the rest of the worlds affairs, permanently in all areas and aspects. Even go as far as banning all incoming international flights, ban all incoming merchant ships, including gas and oil tankers.
Its people such as your self who make America and the majority of your fellow Americans hated by so many in the world. And yes, we all know already, you dont care if anyone hates you.
Just to show everyone what an ignorant fool you really are... "They don't hate our policies, they actually hate the people."
Wrong fool! Its your governments policies which is responsible. American people, well most of them except for the ones like you, arent hated.
And when you finally realise what being the worlds only remaining superpower involves, then come back here and explain why the USA shouldnt give aid.
Oh and the I dont think the people affected by the quake and tsunamis will bother hating people like you clk, instead I think they will probably feel sorry for you, as pathetic as you are.
Dont expect much from"compassionate conservatives"
Barbara Bush speaks out: http://www.bartcop.com/ Reagan jr, the good one: "Cheney brought my mother up to the casket, so she could pay her respects. She is in her 80's, and she has glaucoma and has trouble seeing. There were steps, and he left her there. He just stood there, letting her flounder. I don't think he's a mindful human being. That's probably the nicest way I can put it."
