A couple in India’s Andaman region have named their baby boy Tsunami after his mother went into labour three weeks early – on the day of the devastating tsunami. Tsunami was born after Namita Ray fell while running after the initial earthquake.
Her husband said: "…She was complaining of pain in her abdomen and at first I told her it must be due to the fall as the baby was not due till January 15…” However, as the pain got worse Lakshmi searched for help.
Eventually, he found a nurse who delivered Tsunami on a hill top, surrounded by others who had run from the earthquake. Some time later, Namita was able to receive proper medical attention. It was this doctor who suggested the name Tsunami.
