Indian Couple Name Baby Tsunami

A couple in India’s Andaman region have named their baby boy Tsunami after his mother went into labour three weeks early – on the day of the devastating tsunami. Tsunami was born after Namita Ray fell while running after the initial earthquake.

Her husband said: "…She was complaining of pain in her abdomen and at first I told her it must be due to the fall as the baby was not due till January 15…” However, as the pain got worse Lakshmi searched for help.

Eventually, he found a nurse who delivered Tsunami on a hill top, surrounded by others who had run from the earthquake. Some time later, Namita was able to receive proper medical attention. It was this doctor who suggested the name Tsunami.

Give me a break, do people ever give up on coming up with more ridiculus names to name their kid? ;)

  yeah...
I think a line has to be drawn when people name their kids after events that kill large numbers of people... however, stay tuned for my kids, "Great Chicago Fire" and "Bubonic Plague".

  Ummm
I mean is that really in the childs best interest?

I for one would not appreciate being named after a natural disaster that killed more than 150.000 people. It's not much of an honor, really. Would you want to be called Aids for example? That is after all a far, far greater disaster than this tsunami.

Besides, it's a pretty stupid name regardless of how you look at it. Imagine mom calling out for him at dinner time - "Tsunami! Tsunami!". Half the village will flee in horror.

Typical overemotional reaction that this child now has to pay the price for for the rest of his life.
