Scientists have said they’ve discovered a “giant cockroach” and other new insect species’ in the jungles of Borneo. An expedition conducted by the Nature Conservancy also announced that they found new species’ of plants and fish.
The expedition was led into caves in Borneo. Borneo is not protected by law from mining and logging, despite it being one of the world’s richest regions when it comes to biodiversity. The expedition team is calling for the region’s conservation.
Scott Stanley from Nature Conservancy said: “If something is not done soon to protect these areas, dozens of species could disappear before anyone knew they ever existed." The “giant cockroach” found in Borneo is 10cm, or 4 inches, long.
