Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc., has received an official warning from the Food and Drug Administration, after it was found that an ad for its Seasonale contraceptive deliberately withheld risks to make the pill seem safer.
The letter stated that the commercial advertised women only having four periods a year, but failed to say that women taking the pill have irregular and heavy bleeding. The ad states that continued use of the pill will regulate the bleeding.
The FDA announced that this was untrue in the official warning, dated the 29th of December. The letter was then posted on the FDA Web site.
