54 Pilgrims Killed in Truck Crash

A truck crash in China has left 54 people dead and 41 injured after the truck overturned in western China. According to the Xinhua News Agency, the truck was carrying Tibetan Buddhist pilgrims when it overturned.

All of those injured have been taking to hospital and 29 of them are said to be in a serious condition. It is thought they come from Ganzi and Aba, which are ethnic Tibetan regions in the south of China.

They had been on a pilgrimage to the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, the traditional home of Tibetan Buddhisms highest figure, the Dalai Lama. Around 100,000 people are killed on China’s roads each year.
