It is now a year since the NASA rover "Spirit" touched down on the Mars surface. Spirit landed on January 3rd 2004, followed by its twin the Opportunity three weeks later. The rovers original mission was only to last 90 days.
Jim Erickson, the rover project manager from Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory said: "The rovers are both in amazingly good shape for their age. The twins sailed through the worst of the Martian winter with flying colours, and spring is coming."
The rover mission has been extended twice, and it is thought that the rovers could keep going for some time yet. "Both rovers are in strong positions to continue exploring, but we can't give you any guarantees," Erickson said.
