Tsunami Pledges Near The €3bn Mark

Pledges from world leaders are closing in on the €3bn mark today, UN humanitarian chief Jan Egeland said in New York. Egeland said that "it’s what we see at our TV screens which is the driving force," behind the donations.

Germany has increased its pledge to €510m, and Australia has pledged €575m. Egeland called the pledges "phenomenal" and urged the donors to "be with us in the long term."

Egeland continued: "Germany and Australia, if I can believe the breaking news, will alone give more than a billion dollars. This is just incredible. It comes on top of the $2.5bn we had confirmed as of yesterday."

You know someone who is being generous?
George W. Bush, he donated 10,000 dollars! Can you imagine that? I guy who has lived in a rich family his entire life, is now a millionaire, is donating a whole ten thousand dollars!

Seriously though, Kobe Bryant is donating $1,000 for every point he scores in his next game. (Among other NBA stars)

  Lots of sporting stars
Are donating money. Schumacher has given $10million out of his fortune. A tennis player named Kiefer playing here in Australia this summer, has promised $100,000 for every ace he puts down, he has 6 tournaments here. That sexy Russian tennis player, I forget her name, has given I think $1million.

  the pledges are great, but..
That $3billion ($3,000,000,000) is supposed to help 5million (5,000,000) made homeless by the disaster, that means $600 per person to build their lives back. That will be helpy, but somehow, I don't think that it is enough to give them back their boats, houses, and business.

Also, didn't Berlesconi suggest the top leaders meet up and end world debt because of this?
