Chinese Cars on the Way to US

The man who is famous for bringing the Yugo to the US, Malcolm Bricklin, has teamed up with investment banking firm Allen & Co. to import Chinese cars to the US. The Chinese manufacturer is Chery which is state-run.

The Chinese vehicles will have to meet US safety and emissions standards. The Yugos Bricklin helped bring in were notorious for technical problems. Yugo America only lasted 4 years and Bricklin sold his holdings in 1988.

The goal is to import 250,000 vehicles from China with two being sedans and one an SUV. Bricklin says the vehicles will cost 30% less than ones on the US market. It is noted that Chery is being sued by GM for allegedly copying the Chevrolet Spark.
