British Prime Minister Tony Blair has denied a reported rift between him and Gordon Brown, stating clearly in a press conference that Brown is doing “a superb job”. He would not comment on whether Brown would stay in the party if they’re re-elected.
Some Brown supporters saw the timing of Blair’s monthly news conference as a snub to Chancellor Brown as it coincided – and overshadowed – Brown’s speech on how Blair’s government will tackle global poverty.
Brown denied the snub, telling BBC today that the two speeches showed only that the men have a shared agenda and are supporting each other.
