11 Days On And The Tsunami Conspiracy Theories Emerge

The recent Asian tsunami disaster has caught the imagination of the conspiracy community who are putting forward theories ranging from US eco-weapons to alien intervention. Scientific evidence seems to have little effect in dissuading the theorists.

A correspondent for The India Daily website has suggested that recent alien contacts with South Asian governments, including Indias, have something to do with it. Specifically, the effect of the earthquake on reducing the earths 'wobble' is quoted.

Others point the finger at the US, saying that they have developed special weapons which can trigger volcanoes and earthquakes through the use of electromagnetic waves. The failure of many countries to act immediately is another conspiracy element.

Nutjobs...

  Not really

There are some theories which do make sense and are very possible, but lack hard evidence to prove them, thus they remain theories.
But I agree, some theories, especially ones coming out about the tsunami, are pretty whacky, and one has to question the mental stability of those behind them.

  I'm sure...

someone aimed a green laser at an airplane, it reflected back, and hit the ocean causing an earthquake and the tsunami. Damn those $100 doller lasers!

  Tsunamis

Tsunamis have been happening for millions of years, this is just a way to explain to people that since it has not happened in years, this is the only way possible it can happen. Nature can not have done this, tectonic plates just dont move on their own! To many people watch The Core.

  True

I think about 50 or so years ago, in the Mediteranean sea, there was tsunamis, 15meters high I think, which hit two Greek islands. Thats also another quake prone area.

  I'm surprised

that none of the Bush-bashers/US-bashers on ShortNews aren't running rampant with these theories as well, they're as substantial as the other theories you espouse..

  hmm

I'm an official Bush hater, but I find it silly for some of these "theorists" (to use the term loosely) to try to find something else wrong in the world to pin on the USA's shoulders. Just because I hate Bush does not make me un-American.

This is just another example of how

The US is blamed for everything that goes wrong in the world but yet the world will neglect in acknowlegding that the US is the world leader.
As soon as the world found out what happend with this quake everyone starting asking Bush "What are you going to do to help?" Bush should have said...What are YOU doing?

  @sjava

Im against the fact that Bush is breathing...but to start speculating on conspiracies about electromagnetic waves and such...what a bunch of morons with nothing left to loose!

Makes you think (or at least me)

Initially, I laughed at reading some of the theories people are coming up with. I started to think.. how stupid does someone have to be to believe this crap with absolutely no evidence? But then I thought, is there any evidence to show it was an earthquake? No, not really.. sure, there are a lot of scientists saying it was an earthquake (which is good enough for me), but its not much of a stretch to consider that "hearsay". Of course the earthquake theory has history on its side too. Considering humanity's track record at believing in an idea with absolutely no evidence (God anyone?), can we really say that these people are nutjobs, etc?

  ...Has everyone lost it!?

Apparently, besides those who know better.

The U.S. developing eco-weapons!? Alien intervention? Just how bored is this world. These people need hobbies. Of course, it's safe to assume that those pinning the disaster on "U.S. eco-weapons" probably dislike the U.S. in the first place. I'm not too keen on blindly putting faith in seemingly biased opinions/theories. I'm even more resistant when the opinion is that the U.S. has somehow gained control over nature.

Let me guess though, they did it all to divert the public from the news in Iraq, right? Or, so the U.S. could increase it's debt by giving millions to the countries it just pummeled, right?

And those damn Communist aliens. I knew it all along! That's all I have to say about...

  Take me to your leader

The Intergalatic Federation of Pesky Aliens (from Planet Zyborg) will now proceed with Plan B. We will make Ashlee Simpson sing at President Bush's inaguration and then we can finally finish destroying silly planet Earth. This has been a recording. Thankyou.

Has anyone heard the rumour that a giant-squid farted and caused the tsunami? Wow.

You are correct.

  acg,

the proof that this was a tsunami/earthquake lies in a form of data called seismic activity.
