In 2004 there were 666 million albums sold in the USA, which means a rise of 2,8 per cent. Within the same time 140 million tracks, which approximates 14 million albums, were legally downloaded from the internet.
This emerges from a research by Nielsen Soundscan. The album which was sold most is Confessions by R&B star Usher. Other top-seller albums were released by Norah Jones, Eminem and Kenny Chesney.
As they give the possibility of only downloading the album-tracks one likes, the providing of legal download sources such as the new Napster or Apple's iTunes helped convince people to download their songs legally.
