First-time jobless claims rose unexpectedly in the United States last week, giving light to the instability of the labour market. The Labour Department announced today that first-time claims jumped last week by 43,000.
Overall, 364,000 people made applied for jobless insurance for the first time last week. This is the sharpest increase over-the-week since early 2002. Analysts were surprised by the jump, as they had predicted a rise up to 331,000 claims.
