US Agrees to Work with UN for Tsunami Relief

The United States has agreed to disolve its “core” group of countries that had been willing to work with the US to help the victims of Asia’s tsunami and work under the United Nation in the aid effort.

The agreement was announced by Secretary of State Colin Powell, who also said that the US was likely to extend the aid offered, but failed to name a figure beyond the one already pledged by the country.

Powell said: “The core group helped to catalyze the international response. Now having served its purpose, it will now fold itself into the broader coordination efforts of the United Nations."
