The National Hockey League has announced that it has canceled next week’s meeting with its board of governors. The meeting was being held in an effort to bring an end to the current players lockout which has sent many NHL players to Europe.
The NHL said that the meeting was unnecessary as neither side has anything new to report. It was due to be held on the 14th of January. Speculation had been rife that the meeting was going to cancel the 2004-2005 season.
A board of governors representative said: "People have to come from a far distance, so I'm sure the reason it was called off was there was no reason to have a meeting."
