Edgar Ray Killen, 79, from Mississippi, US, has been arrested in connection with the murder of three civil rights workers back in 1964. Killen is a segregationist preacher with known links to the Ku Klux Klan.
James Chaney, Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman were on their way to a burning church when they were stopped by Ku Klux Klansmen. Chaney, 21, was beaten to death, Schwerner, 24, and Goodman, 20, were both shot. All three were black.
Killen was tried in 1967 along with 17 others but was released after a hung jury. 7 people received jail terms. "This has been a long time coming, but it was definitely worth the wait," Carolyn Goodman, the mother of Andrew Goodman said.
