Just before Christmas, the Northern Bank in Belfast city centre was robbed of £26.5m (€37.7m). Chief Constable in the North Hugh Orde has told a press conference that the Provisional IRA were behind the robbery.
"In my opinion, it is the Provisional IRA which is responsible for this crime," he said, so far all lines of enquiry were pointing in the same direction. So far 100 interviews have taken place and over 45 detectives are working on the case.
"This wasn't a victimless crime. Two families were put through a great deal, including being threatened with death. This was a very violent and brutal crime. It wasn't a Robin Hood effort. Our main focus is to catch those responsible," said Orde.
