Germany: Art Experts Identify Painting as Portrait of Composer Mozart

An oil painting made by German painter Johann Georg Edlinger in 1790 has now been identified as probably the last portrait of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who had died a year later at the age of 35.

Mozart expert Wolfgang Seiller compared the picture with another portrait of Mozart using computer analysis to identify the subject of the painting as the composer.

The picture, which was recently restored, was acquired in 1934 from a Munich art dealer, who purchased it as a portrait of an unknown subject.
