High winds and torrential rain continue today in many parts of the UK, with widespread flooding as a result. Parts of Wales, Scotland and northern England have been severely hit, with homes being evacuated and dozens of flood warnings in place.
A P&O ferry ran aground off the Scottish coast, and the 100 passengers are still stranded on the vessel. Winds caused 10 lorries to turn over on major motorways. Fire officials described the weather in Cumbria as the worst for 40 years.
No casualties have been reported but a spokesman for Cumbria Fire Service said their resources were stretched to the limit with the flooding, "We're pumping it out of one door and it's coming in through another."
